The Equestrian Club is open to all Swansea University students and staff, whether you have your own horse or have never ridden before. We cater to all abilities, offering professional tuition from a BHSI instructor. If you want to learn from the beginning, or hone your dressage and jumping skills then our club is for you!
We ride at Dinefwr Riding Centre in Ammanford:
‘At Dinefwr Riding Centre we believe in providing people with an exceptional environment where you can learn and enjoy horseriding and horsemanship. Our highly qualified staff consistently work on their own continuous professional development to ensure that they provide excellent training for you.
Our wide range of horses and ponies will take you from learning how to do a rising trot to being able to ride sequence changes on one of our PSG schoolmasters, or from trotting over a single pole on the ground to jumping a full BSJA course of jumps.’

Beginners & Nervous Riders
Many students are worried about joining a sporting club when they come to university – especially if they have never done it before. Our club offers a welcoming environment for you to try your hand at something new and get involved in an exciting and fun sport.
It doesn’t matter if you have never ridden before!
Competitions
The club has two teams made up of 5 riders who compete across the UK in BUCS Equestrian. These are two phase events where riders compete on borrowed horses in Dressage and Showjumping. The club have been very successful with riders going to regionals every year.
Like other clubs, trials are held for places within these teams at the beginning of each year. These consist of novice dressage and jumping tests, observed by our BHSI instructor who will then make a recommendation to the Team Captain. This is a relaxed day and anyone is welcome to come trial – you do not need to have competed before.
If you are interested in joining the team then please let us know when you join the club.
Lessons
Lessons are held on Wednesday afternoons with transport arranged weekly. These are not compulsory; you can come as often or as little as you like although we would obviously love to see members eager to come back! There are a wide range of horses available for these lessons from steady neddys up to horses who have won Welsh Masters Jump Offs.
Group lessons are £30 per week (on the day). Please bring £3 for your drivers! if you block book for a semester you get 10% off :)
Merchandise
Kit is arranged annually, it includes Polo Shirts, Gilets, Hoodies, Coats and Kit Bags.
