INTRODUCTION TO THE ROLE
As a Part-Time Officer it will be your responsibility to work as a team to help ensure that Swansea University Students’ Union empowers students to deliver change across the University. You will seek to identify and provide students with the services they require while campaigning to improve their experience on a national and local scale.
The Part-Time Officer role is malleable to fit alongside your student life and academic responsibilities. The time expectations and input of an officer can be adjusted to as much as each candidate wishes to put into the role, from one hour to five hours a week. You will be paired with a Full-Time Officer as a support system to support you in your campaigning efforts and report your activities to the Student Voice Democracy Co-Ordinator as your effective Line Manager.
Your key responsibility will be to ensure that the group you represent receives the support and services they require. In addition, you will, through research, communication, and campaigning, improve their overall experience. For all these roles you are required to self-identify as being a part of the relevant group to run in the elections.
There are ten Part-Time Officer positions in total. Five Liberation Officer roles and five Executive Representative Officer roles. The roles are seen as crucial to the future development of the Union and are designed to allow you to continue with your studies whilst carrying out your role.

ROLE MISSION
The role of this Part-Time Officer is to recognise and represent the views of those students at Swansea University Students’ Union at the executive level.
The role of this executive member is to recognise and represent the views of those students at Swansea University Students’ Union at an executive level.
The Postgraduate Students' Officer’s role on the executive committee will be a dual role in which they bring the experience of their role on the various University Committees as well as being a representative at Postgraduate Taught & Research level.
They are also expected to help promote the National Student Survey campaign and engage with the Education Committee College Reps.
It is expected the Postgraduate Students' Officer will promote the message of the Union and encourage all postgraduate students to get involved in the Union.
Furthermore, it is expected that the Postgraduate Students' Officer will engage in the local and national issues that affect PGT students and will attend events and meetings that relate to these issues as well as keeping up to date on issues that affect postgraduate students in local and national government.
They will also be expected to work with the Education Officer and full time staff (Student Voice Co-ordinators) to highlight, research and campaign to improve the lives of postgraduate students at Swansea University.
It is expected that the Postgraduate Students' Officer will help arrange events and socials which are relevant to postgraduate students as well as social meetings for postgraduate students.

As a Part-Time Officer you will be able to gain, develop, and showcase your skills and this will make your CV stand out from the crowd alongside your degree qualification.
Example skills for your CV:
- Active listening: You will be taking notes and formulating questions when engaging in student forums as a representative of your group.
- Public Speaking: When organising campaigning, you will need to be able to develop your one-to-one skills and when addressing crowds.
- Interpersonal skills: As an officer you will show empathy, patience, kindness and leadership for your group, and the people you represent. This is to ensure the clear and coherent needs of your representation group are heard and taken forward for practical change, improving the student experience.
- Project Management: When leading or supporting on a campaign, you will call upon your organisational and planning skills, to ensure your campaign will represent the goal and outcomes it aims to achieve. You will also show delegation skills when utilising key SUSU resources and getting buy in from your officer team.
- Time Management: In this role you’ll be able to showcase time management skills from your ability to balance performing in your degree and partaking in key democratic events and supporting your student community.
- Creativity: Student needs are continuously changing within the higher education landscape. You will be able to apply creative solutions to these students needs to communicate your campaign purpose.
- Work Ethic: You will express motivation and perseverance to improve the experience and lives of your representation group by attending key democratic events, making sure the voices of your representation group are heard.
