Project Seagrass Guided Spotter Walk

Meeting at Millenium Quay Carpark, SA15 2LF

About

Come and join SUCES and Project Seagrass for a seagrass spotter walk. Register Here

Seagrass is a marine flowering plant, that spreads to create meadows - an amazing marine habitat. Seagrass meadows provide a home for marine life, support our fisheries, take up carbon and help to improve water quality and reduce coastal erosion.

We’ll be setting off from Millennium Quay Carpark (What three Words  - ///notion.hooks.meals) for a 30-minute walk to reach one of Llanelli’s beautiful seagrass meadows! Along the way, we’ll chat about the marine life that depends on seagrass, discuss the vital role these underwater meadows play in coastal health and climate resilience. We will spend some time assessing the meadow and using our phones to record sightings of potential new seagrass growth.

🔍 What We’ll Be Doing:
📸 Collecting photos and data for SeagrassSpotter, our global app tracking seagrass distribution and health. (You can download this from your iPhone or android app platform.)
🌊 Walking out at low tide across sandy and muddy ground to survey the area.
💬 Learning more about the south and west Wales programme (FANNS) and how we’re working to restore and protect seagrass meadows, improve water quality, and support marine biodiversity.
☕ Warming up afterward with a cuppa and a chat at St Elli’s!

No prior science experience needed, just enthusiasm and a sense of adventure!

What to wear:  🥾Wellies, walking boots, or old trainers are recommended. Warm layers and waterproof coat.
