Misunderstandings about HIV often lead to discrimination, isolation, and fear. - combating stigma begins with communication and compassion.

What is HIV/AIDS?

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a condition that weakens the immune system. While not synonymous with AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome), untreated HIV can progress to AIDS, making the body vulnerable to life-threatening infections.

Modern treatments, however, allow people living with HIV to lead long, healthy lives without transmitting the virus.

How You Can Help

  • Wear a red ribbon: The global symbol of HIV awareness and solidarity
  • Get involved: Fundraise, spread awareness on social media or attend events
  • Support testing initiatives: Knowing your HIV status is key to preventing new infections and accessing care
  • Challenge stigma: Foster open, informed conversations about HIV in your community

People like Seb and Maggie, who live with or advocate for those affected by HIV, remind us that the fight is not only about treatment but also about acceptance, equality, and understanding.

Together, we can envision a future without HIV stigma, where everyone has access to the care and support they need. Learn more or get involved at World AIDS Day.
