Y Dechreu / The Beginning
Dydd Miwsig Cymru was born in 2013, courtesy of the Welsh Government, to give Welsh-language music the hype it deserves.
The idea? Get everyone - fluent speakers, learners, or just fans of a good riff - listening to Welsh artists.
Since then, it’s exploded into a full-blown movement, with gigs, viral playlists, and social media buzzing every year.

Why It’s a Big Deal
Dydd Miwsig Cymru is crucial for keeping the Welsh language alive and kicking.
For years, Welsh music was pushed to the fringes, but now? It’s front and centre.
Music is one of the most powerful ways to keep a language relevant, and this day helps make sure younger generations feel connected to their heritage without it feeling like homework.
And honestly, Welsh music goes hard. Whether you understand every lyric or not, the energy, passion, and sheer talent speak for themselves.
