An Update from your Elected Officer Team
We understand that it’s been a difficult first term, far from what you expected your student life to be.
As we find ourselves in another national lockdown, we want you to know as your SU Officers, how grateful we are to each one of you for following the COVID regulations to help protect our friends, family, community and the NHS.
However, it’s no secret that the restrictions have negatively impacted student wellbeing and experience, and we are here to listen to you, help you and represent you through this time.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, your Officer team have listened to you and have raised many important issues to the Senior Management Team at the University. Only today, Ffion (President) highlighted the essential need for more regular and clear communication for students in relation to returning to campus for the new academic term. Katie (Welsh Affairs) also raised the importance of the communications being bilingual for first language welsh students, so that they can understand the regulations as clearly as possible.
Not only this, but a real emphasis and pressure has been put on the University by your Officers to give accommodation refunds to students who are not utilising the University accommodation, due to the staggered return to campus implemented by the University. We hope that our constant pressure and persistence will ultimately mean a win for students who are renting University accommodation.
We are also working closely with the NUS on the Students Deserve Better campaign and the University to raise your concerns about tuition fees as well as the library to ensure easier access to laptops.
Theresa (Education) will also attend an emergency meeting regarding the SafetyNet policy, and to relay your concerns directly to the University. We are committed to ensuring that the pandemic does not undermine the quality of your degree and the academic standards of the University.
Liza (Welfare) has also expressed the extra support needed for students who may be experiencing hardships that could affect examinations and will continue to seek guidance on the matter.
Please know we are doing everything to make sure your voice is heard. We will continue to represent you and answer any questions you have.

Rydyn ni’n deall ei fod wedi bod yn dymor cyntaf anodd, ymhell o'r hyn yr oeddet ti'n disgwyl gan dy amser yn fyfyriwr.
Wrth i ni fod mewn cyfnod cloi cenedlaethol arall, rydyn ni am i ti wybod fel dy Swyddogion UM, pa mor ddiolchgar ydyn ni i bob un o’n myfyrwyr am ddilyn rheoliadau COVID i helpu i amddiffyn ein ffrindiau, teulu, cymuned a'r GIG.
Fodd bynnag, nid yw’n gyfrinach bod y cyfyngiadau wedi cael effaith negyddol ar les a phrofiad myfyrwyr, ac rydyn ni yma i wrando arnat ti, i dy helpu di a dy gynrychioli di trwy'r amser hwn.
Ers dechrau'r pandemig, mae’r tîm o Swyddogion wedi gwrando ar fyfyrwyr ac wedi codi llawer o faterion pwysig i'r Uwch Dîm Rheoli yn y Brifysgol. Heddiw, amlygodd Ffion (y Llywydd) yr angen hanfodol am gyfathrebu mwy rheolaidd a chlir i fyfyrwyr ynghylch dychwelyd i'r campws ar gyfer y tymor academaidd newydd. Cododd Katie (y Swyddog Materion Cymraeg) bwysigrwydd bod y cyfathrebiadau yn ddwyieithog i fyfyrwyr Cymraeg iaith gyntaf, fel eu bod yn gallu deall y rheoliadau mor glir â phosibl.
Nid yn unig hyn, ond mae dy Swyddogion wedi rhoi pwyslais a phwysau gwirioneddol ar y Brifysgol i roi ad-daliadau llety i fyfyrwyr nad sy'n defnyddio llety'r Brifysgol, oherwydd y dychweliad cyfnodol i'r campws a weithredwyd gan y Brifysgol. Gobeithiwn y bydd ein pwysau a'n dyfalbarhad cyson yn y pen draw yn golygu buddugoliaeth i fyfyrwyr sy'n rhentu llety gan y Brifysgol.
Rydyn ni hefyd yn gweithio'n agos â’r UCM ar ymgyrch Myfyrwyr sy'n Haeddu Gwell a gyda’r Brifysgol i godi pryderon myfyrwyr am gontractau llety a ffioedd dysgu yn ogystal â'r llyfrgell i sicrhau mynediad haws at gliniaduron.
Bydd Theresa hefyd yn mynychu cyfarfod brys ynghylch y polisi SafetyNet, ac i drosglwyddo pryderon myfyrwyr yn uniongyrchol i'r Brifysgol. Rydyn ni wedi ymrwymo i sicrhau nad yw'r pandemig yn tanseilio ansawdd dy radd a safonau academaidd y Brifysgol.
Mae Liza (y Swyddog Lles) hefyd wedi mynegi'r gefnogaeth ychwanegol sydd ei hangen ar fyfyrwyr a allai fod yn profi caledi a allai effeithio ar arholiadau a bydd Liza yn parhau i geisio arweiniad ar y mater.
