How do I set boundaries?
There are lots of kinds of boundaries that can be set, and different relationships have different requirements! Remember that boundaries are unique to you and your needs and sometimes don’t have to make sense.
Setting a boundary can be simply telling your partner things that you are and aren’t comfortable with. For example, a boundary could be saying to your partner “I don’t like apples, please don’t eat them around me”. A healthy partner will listen and respect your needs.
Communication is the only way to clearly define your boundaries to your partner. A lot of awkwardness can be avoided with honest, open conversations, instead of expecting your partner to read your mind.
If you don’t feel as though you can communicate your boundaries and feelings to your partner, then it might be time to take a step back and think about your relationship or reach out for support.
