The tragic events of Sarah Everard and the recent incidents within our community have emphasised the importance of protecting women in Swansea. Our thoughts are with Sarah’s family, friends, and loved ones.
It is our collective responsibility to act against this, and to call out incidents of sexual harassment and abuse. We are committed to furthering the work already done through providing personal safety alarms, self-defence classes, consent training, and developing SU and University policies to safeguard our students.
We are also dedicated to working with the wider community to educate and influence change so that in the future women don’t need to be afraid about going out alone in our city.
As an all-female Officer Team, this is an issue very close to our heart, and we are determined to use our platform as the elected representatives of the Swansea University student body to make a difference. Over the coming months we will be doing our part to influence change in Swansea by:
- Bringing the issue of lighting in Singleton Park to the forefront of the University and Council’s agenda.
- Working closer with South Wales Police to ensure transparent communication happens with students to offer greater reassurance.
- Reviewing our internal policies within the Students’ Union and University to better protect survivors of assault and harassment.
Swansea University Students’ Union will continue to work closely with the University, Swansea Council, and South Wales Police to ensure that every female in our community is safe and feels protected.

Mae digwyddiadau trasig Sarah Everard a’r digwyddiadau diweddar yn ein cymuned wedi pwysleisio pwysigrwydd amddiffyn menywod yn Abertawe. Mae ein meddyliau gyda theulu, ffrindiau, ac anwyliaid Sarah.
Ein cyfrifoldeb ni yw gweithredu yn erbyn hyn, a galw allan digwyddiadau o aflonyddu a cham-drin rhywiol. Rydym wedi ymrwymo i ehangu ar y gwaith a wnaed eisoes trwy ddarparu larymau diogelwch personol, gwersi hunanamddiffyn, hyfforddiant cydsynio, a datblygu polisïau UM a'r Brifysgol i ddiogelu ein myfyrwyr.
Rydym hefyd yn ymroddedig i weithio gyda'r gymuned ehangach i addysgu a dylanwadu ar newid fel na fydd angen i fenywod ofni mynd allan ar eu pen eu hunain yn ein dinas yn y dyfodol.
Fel Tîm o Swyddogion benywaidd, mae hwn yn fater sy'n agos iawn at ein calonnau, ac rydym yn benderfynol o ddefnyddio ein platfform fel cynrychiolwyr etholedig o fyfyrwyr Prifysgol Abertawe i wneud gwahaniaeth. Dros y misoedd nesaf byddwn yn gwneud ein rhan i ddylanwadu ar newid yn Abertawe trwy:
- Dod â mater goleuadau ym Mharc Singleton yn flaenllaw yn agenda'r Brifysgol a'r Cyngor.
- Gweithio'n agosach gyda Heddlu De Cymru i sicrhau bod cyfathrebu tryloyw yn digwydd gyda myfyrwyr i gynnig mwy o sicrwydd.
- Adolygu ein polisïau mewnol o fewn Undeb y Myfyrwyr a’r Brifysgol i amddiffyn goroeswyr ymosodiadau ac aflonyddu yn well.
Bydd Undeb Myfyrwyr Prifysgol Abertawe yn parhau i weithio’n agos gyda’r Brifysgol, Cyngor Abertawe, a Heddlu De Cymru i sicrhau bod pob merch yn ein cymuned yn ddiogel ac yn teimlo ei bod yn cael ei gwarchod.
