The Welsh Varsity returned to the sunshine of Swansea yesterday with a sell out crowd!
A record number of students were in attendance for a day of sport, music, food and drink. Swansea Bay Sports Park was host to the majority of the action throughout the day and while the overall Varsity Shield result was not favourable to Swansea, some battling performaces left much to be proud of and plenty to build upon for next years tournament. The Mens Football match went right down to the wire with Cardiff eventually winning on penalties. Notable wins for the Swans came in Rowing, Rugby League, Mens Futsal, Womens Hockey, Mens Water Polo, Freshers Rugby and Womens Football.
As the day went on Students moved to the Swansea.com stadium for the showpiece events of the day, mens and womens rugby!
It was a difficult afternoon for the womens team, who were on the wrong end of a 12-71 scoreline. However, it was a different story in the mens game, a man of the match performace from Swansea's number 9 and an outstanding team display saw Swansea run out 44-28 winners to take the Varsity Cup.
We're extremely proud of the performaces of all of our sports teams, everyone gave their all and represented Swansea admirably. A special mention also to the Green and White Army, who turned out in their thousands to support our mens and womens teams throughout the day.
Diolch all for another great year of The Welsh Varsity and we'll see you all in Cardiff next year!
