Swansea University Students’ Union are celebrating after being named Higher Education Students’ Union of the year at the NUS Wales Awards on Wednesday night.
Alongside this success the Union also won four awards in other categories at the event, including a Community Relations award for all the hard work we have been doing to integrate students in to the local community and help keep making Swansea a great place to live. The Union had a total of eight nominations in six categories, coming out on top for prizes on the night.
The winning prizes also included, Higher Education Officer of the year for International Officer Mahaboob Basha, Society of the Year won by Choral Society and Best Student Journalist picked up by Chris Flynn.
President Tom Upton said ‘Being up for nomination in so many categories at the awards this year was really exciting but to have been winners in nearly all of the categories was completely unexpected.
“Our staff, officers and students do so much to make Swansea Union brilliant and it all paid off on Wednesday night.”
The Union has worked hard over the last year to improve student feedback implementing a number of new forums and rep systems and has campaigned to improve represntation for students at the university, efforts which have now been recognised at a national level.
Swansea students other nominations included Human Rights Action Society, The Siren for student media and Samantha Booth for student journalist of the year.
