The Students’ Union has been ranked in the top 25% of all UK institutions for student satisfaction, recent NSS results show.
74% of students surveyed said they were satisfied with the Union, an increase of 3% from 2012, placing us above average compared to other institutions. Swansea student satisfaction has remained high in the University at 86% with a good achievement of a 3% increase in assessment and feedback.
The National Student Survey is a study carried out across the UK, asking students their views on teaching, feedback, organisation and academic support. It is only the second year the Students’ Union has been included as a separate question and the increase continues the successful trend.
Union President, Zahid Raja said “I am thrilled to see that Swansea University Students’ Union has continued its upward trajectory. This result is on the back of being announced as NUS Wales Higher Education Students’ Union; firmly placing the Students’ Union in the top quartile of all UK Students’ Unions.
“This year, we will be launching our new strategic plan outlining how we aim to enhance the student experience whilst leading on the ‘students as partners’ agenda in Wales in order to realise our ambitions in joining the top 10% of Students’ Unions by 2020.
“I was also delighted to see the rise in Assessment and Feedback this year - part of this was down to the campaign we ran explaining to students their rights when it came to getting good quality assessment and feedback.”
The survey reflects the national achievement of the Union this year, being awarded the Best Higher Education Students’ Union in Wales by NUS.
The Union’s broad array of services also stood out in the survey with 78% of students satisfied with the range of entertainments and social events on offer and a high 82% of students feeling satisfied with the range of clubs and societies available.
The annual survey will be launched again in the New Year and Students will again have the chance to air their views.
