Currently, only two societies, 'The Applied Medical Sciences Society (AMS)' and 'The Biochemistry & Genetics Society (BiGSoc)' represent three of the six Undergraduate Biomedical Science courses within the Medical School, meaning that not every student has felt included or was not interested in joining. This has led to a low turnout in memberships and events.
By merging these two societies and the six courses into one, this massive new society, called 'The Biomedical Sciences Society (BioMedSciSoc)', can better represent all these courses and their respective students. Students would be able to attend better-tailored academic events, along with massive social activities. This merger can also help to increase engagement between the students, the Medical School staff, and the SU as each course would be represented by their team within the committee. It would also be easier to manage within the society's committee, as each team would report back to the (Vice-) President, Secretary or Treasurer, creating a collaborative working environment.
